Quicksilver by Callie Hart
First recommendation comes from Gemma in our Coventry store's book department discussing Callie Hart's first installment in the Fae and Alchemy series, Quicksilver.
One of my favourite reads of 2024 was Quicksilver. Quicksilver is the story of Saeris Fane, a 24 year old woman who is trying to keep her and her younger brother afloat by pickpocketing her way around Zilvaren. A run in with the queen's guards leads to Saeris meeting death himself… Except it's not Death, it's Kingfisher, our broody MMC. He’s a 7ft tall Fae warrior who is completely put out by Saeris’ mere existence, or is he?
This book is a Romantasy epic, with great world building, lots of twists and a slowwww burn romance. If you love enemies to lovers, a grumpy shadow daddy and great banter then this is the series for you! Callie Hart's Fae and Alchemy series continues this November with Brimstone.
Judge Dredd: A Better World
Next comes Judge Dredd: A Better World from Rich in our Newcastle comic department!
A controversial plan to lower the crime rate in Mega-City One by diverting Justice Dept funds into services that would benefit average citizens appears to be working – but inevitably attracts the interest of powerful figures with vested interests in keeping the status quo, whatever the cost…
Dredd may be nudging 50 but he still has the capacity to constantly surprise and delight even long term readers like myself. This is classic Dredd: subversive, exciting, satirical, unpredictable – and another milestone in the five decades spent world building Mega-City One. Zarjaz indeed!
