The Top Ten T-Shirts of 2011

Get it on your chest!

Was this the year that the t-shirt became the ultimate expression of geek cred? We've seen the rise of the costume tee, everything from Who to Star Wars to Ghostbusters, and we've watched as the trusty Haynes' Manual took on a whole new form of expression. You know you want one!

Below are our fave ten t-shirts - what do you reckon?

[T-Shirt: Stark Winter Is Coming]

10. Game Of Thrones: T-Shirt: Stark Winter Is Coming

While there are t-shirts for most of the Great Houses of Westeros, our favourite one has to be for the House of Stark. Mainly because direwolves are cooler than stags or squid, but also because all the other houses are pretty sneaky and corrupt, while the Stark's are noble and honorable.

But really it's because of the wolves.

[T-Shirt: UNIT]

9. Doctor Who: T-Shirt: UNIT

As shown in recent series, The Doctor can get a job wherever he wants, so why did he stick with UNIT for so long? Because UNIT, like bowties, are cool. They're an army of no nonsense alien fighters, led by The Brigadier and advised by The Doctor, they have bases in Mount Snowdon and on the Moon and they don't seem to fit into any conventional dating system.

If you're going to represent a fictional branch of the military, make it this one!

[T-Shirts: Steve Rogers Super Soldier Costume]

8. Marvel: T-Shirts: Steve Rogers Super Soldier Costume

Sadly not the Amalgam universe combination of Captain America and Superman, but the identity taken by Steve Rogers upon his return from the dead - Super Soldier is leader of the Secret Avengers and an all around badass! One of the best looking superhero costumes in recent years is now one of our favourite t-shirts of the year!

[T-Shirts: Darth Vader Costume]

7. Star Wars: T-Shirts: Darth Vader Costume

After putting on this t-shirt, the wearer must stumble around for a bit and then shout 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'. You don't have to, it'll just help to get into character.

Anyway, how could we not have this on our list? One of the greatest villains of all time, as well as one of the most recognisable, as a costume t-shirt! Impressive. Most impressive.

[T-Shirts: 6th Doctor Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)]

6. Doctor Who: T-Shirts: 6th Doctor Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)

This one is a personal favourite - probably the least popular Doctor Who outfit in a costume tee! The patchwork coat of the 6th Doctor, complete with cat brooch, makes this t-shirt particularly eyecatching. Plus Colin Baker likes this t-shirt, which is awesome.

[T-Shirts: 11th Doctor Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)]

5. Doctor Who: T-Shirts: 11th Doctor Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)

After the 11th Doctor's first appearance, the sales of bow ties and tweed skyrocketed, unfortunately for fans of the Doctor those things are expensive. Handily this t-shirt combines the smartness of tweed and bowties with the comfort of t-shirts, and all for the price of a regular t-shirt! Plus you don't have to go rummaging around a hospital locker room for it!

[T-Shirts: Savage Land]

4. Marvel: T-Shirts: Savage Land

While it may be difficult to actually visit the Savage Land, due to it's status as an international wildlife preserve, you can still tell people you've been with this cool t-shirt. Think t-shirts advertsing fictional companies from films are cool? How about t-shirts advertising fictional dinosaur ridden jungles from comics?

One downside is that you'll probably have to explain that it's not a Jurassic Park t-shirt.

[T-Shirts: Haynes Slave 1]

3. Star Wars: T-Shirts: Haynes Slave 1

Slave 1 = Coolest ship ever Haynes Manual = Manly

This t-shirt = A Star Wars design you can wear to the mechanic's.

This might be one of the best designs ever - yes, there are several of the Haynes Manual t-shirts featuring various ships from Star Wars, but Boba Fett's modified Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft is by far one of the greatest ships in the entire Star Wars Universe.

[T-Shirts: Earthshock Cyberman Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)]

2. Doctor Who: T-Shirts: Earthshock Cyberman Costume (Forbidden Planet Exclusive)

Want to dress up as a Cyberman but don't want to have to go through that messy conversion process or wear a shiny jumpsuit? Then this t-shirt is just for you. Displaying a classic 80s cyberman design, this t-shirt might look like a bunch of pipes, but is actually the chestplate of one of the Doctor's greatest enemies.

[T-Shirts: Keep Calm I'm The Doctor]

1. Doctor Who: T-Shirts: Keep Calm I'm The Doctor

Someday people will get bored of the whole 'Keep Calm' meme, but not yet! Simple, classy and elegant - this t-shirt relays an important piece of advice while maintaining a classic design. Totally love the little TARDIS at the top.
