Ian Whates signing Pelquin's Comet
IAN WHATES will be signing PELQUIN’S COMET at Forbidden Planet Cambridge on Saturday 11th April from 4 - 5pm!
In an age of exploration, the crew of the freetrader Pelquin’s Comet – a rag-tag group of misfits, ex-soldiers and ex-thieves – set out to find a cache of alien technology, intent on making their fortunes; but they are not the only interested party and find themselves in a deadly race against corporate agents and hunted by the authorities. Forced to combat enemies without and within, they strive to overcome the odds under the watchful eye of an unwelcome guest: Drake, agent of the bank funding their expedition, who is far more than he seems and may represent the greatest threat of all.
Ian Whates lives in a quiet Cambridgeshire village with his partner, Helen, and Honey, a manic cocker spaniel. Pelquin’s Comet is his sixth novel, preceded by the Noise books (space opera with a twist) via Solaris, and the City of 100 Rows trilogy (urban fantasy with steampunk overtones and SF underpinning) via Angry Robot. Some sixty of his short stories have appeared in various venues, two of which were shortlisted for BSFA Awards, while his work has received honourable mentions in Year’s Best anthologies. His second collection, Growing Pains (PS Publishing), appeared in 2013. Ian has edited The Mammoth Book of… titles for Constable and Robinson and the on-going Solaris Rising series for Solaris, the latest of which found its way onto the 2014 Philip K. Dick Award shortlist. In his spare time, he runs multiple award-winning independent publisher NewCon Press, which he founded by accident in 2006.
