Randal Munroe, creator of the XKCD webcomic, will be signing copies of What If? at our London Megastore from 12:30 on Thursday 6th November.

XKCD is former NASA roboticist Randall Munroe’s wildly popular and darkly witty webcomic about maths, language, love and other things - visited by millions of people each week, the site is an online phenomenon.

Fans of XKCD ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What would happen if the moon went away? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? When (if ever) did the sun set on the British Empire? If there was a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last? In pursuit of answers, Munroe runs computer simulations, pores over stacks of declassified military research memos, solves differential equations, and consults with nuclear reactor operators.

New York Times and Sunday Times Number 1 Bestseller WHAT IF?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions will explain the laws of science in operation in a way that every intelligent reader will enjoy and feel the smarter for having read. Munroe’s responses are masterpieces of clarity and hilarity, studded with memorable cartoons and infographics.

Randall Munroe is the creator of webcomic xkcd.com. He has been nominated for three Hugo Awards. The International Astronomical Union recently named an asteroid after him; asteroid 4942 Munroe is big enough to cause a mass extinction if it ever hits a planet like Earth.
