Paul Hoffman - The Left Hand of God
PAUL HOFFMAN will be signing The Left Hand of God at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2h 8JR on Thursday 14th January 6 – 7pm.
The Sanctuary of the Redeemers on Shotover Scarp is named after a lie – as it holds neither. It’s a vast and desolate place; for years, its occupants have endured a brutal regime of cruelty and violence – in the name of the One True Faith. Thomas Cale is one such occupant – he’s strange and secretive, witty and charming, violent and profoundly bloody-minded. He’s so used to the cruelty that he seems immune, but soon he will open the wrong door at the wrong time and witness an act so terrible that he will have to leave, or die. His only hope of survival is to escape across the arid Scablands to Memphis, a city the opposite of the Sanctuary in every way: breathtakingly beautiful, infinitely Godless, and deeply corrupt.
Paul Hoffman is the author of two previous novels, The Wisdom of Crocodiles 2000), which predicted the collapse of the world financial system, and The Golden Age of Censorship (2007), a black comedy based on his experiences as a film censor. After graduating from New College, Oxford, he worked in over twenty diffferent jobs, including boardman in a betting shop, messenger boy to a City merchant bank and as a teacher. He was also senior film censor at the British Board of Film Classification. The Left Hand of God is the first instalment of a stunning trilogy, and Paul's first foray into the fantasy genre.
