Escaping from the Bondsmagi, Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen have fled their home city. Arriving in the city state of Tal Varrar, they plan their most spectacular heist yet; the Sinspire, a gaming house from which no one has ever taken a coin that wasn’t won on the tables. Locke and Jean soon find themselves co-opted into an attempt to bring Zamira Drakasha’s pirate fleet to justice. All the while the Bondsmagi are plotting their revenge against Locke, the one man who has humiliated them and lived.
