Sulema - daughter of the Dragon King - is imprisoned by her power-hungry brother Pythos. In return for help in escaping, she agrees to cross into the Seared Lands of Quarabala to retrieve the young woman Maika, who holds the key to defeating Pythos.

Overwhelmed by her responsibilities, however, Sulema seeks to flee. At the same time Ismai, possessed by the undead dragon king, begins to raise armies of the undead.

The spider-like araids are overrunning the settlements in the Seared Lands, forcing the humans who live there to flee. At the same time the half-breed Jian has become a twilight army warlord under his father the Sea King. He leads a raid against the holdings of the Sindanese emperor, causing the emperor to seek a pact with the Twilight Lords, uniting them against Pythos, the new Dragon King in Atualon.

Sulema is captured and put into the arena, where she is forced to fight her childhood friend and fellow warrior Hannei. Hannei defeats her, when a new player enters the scene - the Pirate King. He seeks to aid Sulema, and is revealed as her brother, Leviathus.

Although reluctant, she decides to shoulder her responsibility, and head back toward the Seared Lands. Reaching the Quarabalese capital of Saodan, she learns that young Maika is the queen of Quarabala and keeper of the Mask of Sajani, which could be the key to defeating Pythos - or destroying the world.

Becoming the warrior she was destined to be, Sulema journeys with her allies through Shehannam, the dreaming lands. In Min Yaarif - where she was trained - she joins with a massive military force, then turns back toward Atualon and her usurping brother. Fighting through incredible opposition they finally face Pythos on the Dragon Throne, and Sulema demands that he surrender.

Jian reaches the Forbidden City, leading human and supernatural forces, including the kraken and the Sea King himself. Though badly wounded in the process, Jian defeats the emperor, and is crowned Emperor.

Back in Atualon, Pythos reveals an alliance with Sulema’s greatest foe, the Nightmare Man, Sulema again dons the mask of Sajani, and the two fight. She wins, but the worst is yet to come.

The Earth Dragon awakes. Ismai dons the mask of the sun dragon, and joins Sulema in returning the earth dragon to her slumber.
