Starhyke: Complete Series 1 Box Set
5 out of 5 stars At last something different!, Dec. 5, 2009 - By Hannah Baker

I've been wanting to see this series for years, now I have watched it, was it worth the wait? I went to FP after work grabbed my copy and invited a few friends around that evening.

Nice opening and excellent visual effects, then as we reached episode 3 it started to gather ground. Episode 4 was for me one of the best, ***SPOILER ALERT*** it brought me and my friends almost to tears watching the death of Claudia's son.

I grant you this won't be for everyone (as I saw the reviews already here, Hyperdrive was not good - worst than Starhyke, but it got a second series, so now I want Starhyke to get given the same chance to see if they can improve it)

Episode 5 & 6 are the best, the characters start to shine and the stories seem much tighter. The cliff hanger in Episode 6 made us all laugh, what a way to end a series. The music is good, acting is not bad, visual effects outstanding. all in all not a bad little UK series.

It was a great evening in with my friends, it's nice to have something different than all the macho sci-fi. My friends agreed it's nice to see such a strong female cast, so I'd give them A+ for trying and hopefully a chance to shine in a second series.

Well worth watching,

Hannah Baker.

4 out of 5 stars A great surprise!, Dec. 7, 2009 - By 24fan

I picked this up after visiting a signing at Forbidden Planet in London to meet with Jeremy "Boba Fett" Bulloch and get myself a copy - though I'd heard next to nothing about the show I am happy to report I really enjoyed it! Seemingly coming from nowhere, the show has amazing production values, with top-notch CGI and great sets - all according to the making-of built on a shoestring in a warehouse somewhere in Bristol!! Claudia and especially Jeremy Bulloch are fantastic and great fun as the ships captain and doctor respectively and the rest of the oddball crew carry us through a series of increasingly hilarious and twisted storylines before we arrive at the final cliffhanger of episode six - I just hope they get the second season they deserve in order to resolve it!

Unfortunately, Danny John Jules only has a small cameo, but there are lots of surprise appearances along the way and all of the cast do a good job.

I'm surprised there's only negative reviews on this site so far - okay, so of course it's not for everyone, but then, what is? If you're a sci-fi fan I encourage you to give this a try!

1 out of 5 stars not very good, Dec. 2, 2009 - By obediahsilt

I remember reading about this years ago and looking forward to see it. I couldn't work out why no-one released it.
Now that I've seen it I know its because its so bad.
It doesn't work either as science fiction or comedy
The scripts are terrible, the acting is pathetic
and the "jokes" are non-existent. Even Hyperdrive was better than this!
The cgi is excellent and the music is ok but that's not enough to make it watchable.
Don't waste your time.
