Star Trek: The Original Series: Enterprise HD Edition
4 out of 5 stars USS Enterprise, Jan. 17, 2010 - By bikerzxr

I recently purchased this item and to be honest wasn't sure what to expect, but, having received the item, I am generally pleased with it. Forbidden Planet offers this model for the cheapest price I've seen, and delivery was prompt. I've always liked the Enterprise, but am by no means a Star Trek expert, so I can't comment on how accurate the model is, but it looks pretty spot on to me.

It's labelled as a toy, but it seems more suited as display model owing to the amount of detail and general construction. I doubt it would last very long in the hands of a child. The construction is reasonably robust, the ship always looked white to me on the TV series, but is infact a light grey. The model appears spray painted, has a matt finish which hides its plastic construction. However, I suspect with repeated handling this finish will become marked and I was disappointed to find my model had been scratched along the secondary hull which spoiled it for me. The light and sound effects are good but light shines through some gaps in the construction, but in general does not shine through the actual painted hull. It's a shame the windows are sprayed on and not actually drilled through the hull and lit. Some of these sprayed on windows are not that accurate, the lines being distorted. On my model the voice of Captain Kirk is authentic, but on one phrase missed of the 's' of the word 'planets'. The model was supplied with batteries which was great. The stand is a nice design, but again, with repeated use I feel the ball joint would become weak and not support the model.

So, in general I'm pleased with this product. It's a good model for a mass produced item and for the price, but don't expect perfection. It's an item any modeller/ Star Trek fan would be pleased to display and I intend to purchase the 'mirror mirror' version at a later date.
