The series opens as a mysterious pillar of darkness descends upon Japan, opening a gateway to another dimension and spawning a gigantic two-headed monster that destroys itself in a spectacular fashion.

Twelve years later, twin brother and sister Yu and Ai hop on a magical subway that takes them to a fantastical but dangerous realm known as Wonderland, where they hope to solve the mystery of their scientist parents' disappearance on that dreadful day with the help of a kindly sorceress and a brooding gunslinger.
