  • Presented in this hardcover edition are the adventures of the first super-hero to ever be called "The Fastest Man Alive." Scientist Jay Garrick was the original physics-defying Flash and the basis for later versions of the Scarlet Speedster. This volume reprints classic tales from the beginning of Jay's career so you can see how the inhalation of hard water fumes results in his ability to move faster than the speed of sound! With his newfound capabilities, the Flash dons a costume and a silver helmet and begins a life of fighting monstrous creatures, crooked politicians, underworld thugs, and loathsome kidnappers. Collects Flash Comics #1-17.

  • Flash: Golden Age Flash Archives: Volume 1 (Hardcover)

4 out of 5 starsWhere did he get that hat?, - By Beeta

Superheroes were often called "long underwear characters" because most male characters' costumes looked like long underwear, plus boots, usually a mask, perhaps some gloves and a few also had a weapon. Most of the costume could be worn underneath an ordinary suit. The boots, mask, gloves and weapon could be carried in an ordinary briefcase.
But the Flash wore a helmet that looked like something his dad wore in World War One.
    Where did he keep it?
    This book answers that question.
Because he could run 2,000 miles per hour, whenever anyone needed the Flash, he ran home and changed, but it does not say why, as in the early stories everyone he helps seems to know he is the Flash. Later he seems to have a secret identity and only his girlfriend remembers that he is the Flash.
There are no supervillains. Mostly he fights corrupt politicians and dishonest businessmen but he does it with humour.

A good read for those who like The Adventures Of Superman TV series.
